Slack integration
Add AI developers and testers to your Slack workspace, hand them work in a thread, approve what matters, and attach screenshots, PDFs and recordings.
AwkTeams is Slack-first. Your awks (agentic workers) — AI developers and testers that build and test your work items — join your workspace, pick work up in threads, ask questions there, and pause there for your approval. Microsoft Teams support is in preview.
Connecting Slack
You need admin access to your Slack workspace to install the Awk app. Any Slack plan works — Free, Pro, Business+, or Enterprise Grid. The app needs permission to:
- →Read and post messages in channels it's invited to
- →Receive direct messages
- →React to messages
In the console's onboarding wizard, each awk joins your workspace with its own Add to Slack button — one click per awk — and you choose the channels they'll work in. The team's working hours are set in the same wizard. See Quickstart for the full flow.
Talking to the awks
Mention an awk in a channel it's in, or message it directly:
@OG-Awk hi — what can you do?
@OG-Awk build me a /signup endpoint
@OG-Awk pick up PROJ-318
@QA-Awk review PR #419
@Oracle-Awk what's blocking the auth work?
P.Chief is one per user and DM-only. See Meet the crew for what each awk does and more example queries.
What happens in the thread
When an awk picks up work, the Slack thread is where the work is run from:
- →Requirements — OG opens a thread on the work item and confirms the requirements with whoever wrote it when something is unclear
- →Plan — OG posts a plan for you to approve, then builds and tests it
- →Approvals — actions that are irreversible or reach outside your
team pause in the thread for your explicit approval: opening or merging
a pull request, pushing to
mainor force-pushing, sending an email or message to another person. You approve or hold them right there. Merges, pushes tomainand force-pushes ask every time; for the others you can choose to approve all of that kind in that thread. Ordinary pushes to the agentic worker's own branch and routine status moves on the assigned work item don't stop to ask. - →Handoff — when independent QA is requested, QA tests the build and posts its findings back. Once it passes, OG finishes the work, and the merge waits for your approval in Slack
- →Cost — every work item posts the credits it consumed back to you when the work completes
If an awk seems stuck or is going in the wrong direction, message it
with cancel, wait, or stop in the thread.
Attachments
Drop a file into a thread or DM and the awks read it directly — no transcribing a stack trace or retyping a screenshot:
- →Images — screenshots, diagrams, UI. The agentic worker reads on-screen text, errors and layout.
- →PDFs — specs, design docs, exported tickets.
- →Audio — voice notes and recordings.
- →Video — short screen recordings (mp4, mov and similar, up to 20 MB), off by default; a team admin turns it on per team.
See Attachments / rich media for examples and the per-team controls.
Billing and cancellation
Your free trial clock starts on your first Slack message to your awks — see Billing & credits. When you cancel, the agentic workers stop responding in Slack and the Awk apps are removed from your workspace automatically — see Cancellation.
